Sedation Dentistry

The calming effect of sedation during dental procedures may be the scientific innovation that has had the greatest impact on patient comfort. Many patients report a greatly improved experience following sedation, and for some, sedation dentistry is the only way that they can manage their personal concerns about dental procedures.

With our experience in sedation dentistry, Abundant Smiles is able to put patients at ease, providing them with the best possible dental experience.

WHAT IS SEDATION DENTISTRY?

Sedation dentistry is one of the oldest uses of anesthetic and is done to minimize any pain or discomfort during a variety of dental procedures. While sedated, patients are not only protected from pain but are relieved of any stress they may have regarding the procedure or other outside stresses.

Though sedation may be administered in many ways, one of the most common forms is nitrous oxide, which is given to the patient through a small mask that is placed on the nose. This mask is designed for comfort and may be quickly removed for any reason if the patient feels uncomfortable.

Once the mask is in place, the anesthetic is administered according to rigorous safety standards by a member of the dental team who has been highly trained and certified in its administration. Exactly the right amount is given for the patient’s size, procedure length and personal preference, ensuring a completely comfortable dental experience.

A WIDE RANGE OF DENTAL PROCEDURES UNDER SEDATION

Almost any procedure may be performed under sedation to put patients at ease. Generally, patients prefer to use sedation options for more invasive procedures, such as implants, fillings, and root canals. However, each patient’s needs are unique, and they may wish to use sedation dentistry for as many procedures as possible.

Abundant Smiles is happy to offer our patients sedation options for a vast array of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental procedures. These procedures may include, but are not limited to:

  • Dental Implants
  • Dental Crowns
  • Dental Bonding
  • Dental Checkups
  • Dental Fillings
  • Dental Bridges
  • Dental Cleanings
  • Root canals
  • Emergency Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is particularly popular and successful with children, who may have anxiety about any type of medical or dental office visit, though patients of all ages may benefit from the use of sedation dentistry.

Whatever your feelings, or the feelings your children may have about going to the dentist, Abundant Smiles is confident that our patients will feel comfortable and welcome at our dental practice. Regardless of any previous bad experiences, worries or concerns, our sedation options can put any patient at ease while restoring their teeth to the healthiest, most aesthetically pleasing condition possible.
