What is the difference between a dental crown and bridge.

Dental crown is essentially a cap used to mimic the look and function of a natural tooth. A crown is placed over the visible part of a tooth, above the gum line.

A dental bridge literally bridges the gap created by a missing tooth or teeth. A bridge uses the natural teeth or implants on either side of the gap to act as the anchors for the bridge. These anchor teeth serve as support for the false tooth that bridges the gap between them.

Advantages of dental crowns and bridges:

  • They protect teeth from further damage
  • Restore the look and function of a natural tooth
  • When cared for properly, crowns and bridges can last upwards of 15 years
  • Often less expensive than implants
  • Mimic the look and feel of natural teeth
  • Revitalize your smile

Will my dental insurance cover my dental crown or bridge?

Most dental insurances classify crowns and bridges as a "major service". If you have held your insurance for between 6-12 month your dental insurance may cover you for a percentage or certain dollar amount of your treatment. However, often they also have exclusions that say things like damage to teeth caused from natural wear would not be covered. These exclusions, combined with the annual maximums we see in many policies could lead to disappointment in your coverage.

If you find that you’re facing any of these challenges, we can help!

  • Decayed or weakened teeth
  • Broken or worn-down teeth
  • Misshapen or discolored teeth
  • Covering dental implants
  • Enhancing your smile
  • Holding a dental bridge in place

Dental crowns and bridges are an effective solution for replacing structure, function, and esthetics of damaged or missing teeth. At Abundant Smiles, our skill and technology make both crowns and bridges a very safe and reliable method of smile restoration.
